FRIBOURG, TERRE DE HOCKEY
Three episodes, one canton, and a passion that has shaped generations.
Synopsis
Created in the run-up to the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, Fribourg, Terre de Hockey explores how the sport became part of the canton’s identity. Across three episodes, the series revisits the arrival of Slava Bykov and Andrei Khomutov in 1990, connects international hockey with the landscapes and hospitality of Gruyères, and brings together a generation of Swiss players to reflect on the friendships, sacrifices and memories that shaped their careers.
The edge
Built from archive footage, first-person testimony and contemporary location filming, the series moves beyond results to reveal the cultural force of hockey in Fribourg. Legends, former internationals and local voices connect the sport’s defining moments to the people and places carrying its legacy forward.
Diffusion
Produced as the official web series of Fribourg 2026, the three episodes were released on the project’s YouTube channel and website, supported by teasers, short extracts and collaborative social content. The format was designed to build momentum towards the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship while creating a lasting audiovisual record of Fribourg’s hockey heritage.
